A Season of Reflection

Dec 28, 2024 | Devotional

As the end of December approaches, it brings a time of quiet—a perfect opportunity to review all I’ve experienced in the year now passing while anticipating what lies ahead. This particular season of reflection carries special significance for me. Not only am I preparing to leave 2024 behind, but I am also stepping into a new chapter as I prepare to pass the baton to a new Executive Director at the end of January (announcement coming soon).

Since this is my final newsletter, I hoped to offer something profoundly inspiring. However, that lofty goal has only resulted in writer’s block. Instead, I’d like to share a few of the lessons I’ve learned through this incredible journey with Well of Mercy. My hope is that these reflections will inspire you to look for the lessons God places in your path as well.

Reflections of God’s Handiwork

One of the greatest gifts I’ve discovered is recognizing God’s handiwork, even when the scenario doesn’t make sense at first. Time and again, I’ve seen how He provides—though often not in the ways I initially expect or desire.

There have been many moments when I’ve asked myself, “What is the lesson in this situation for me (or for Well)?” Life’s challenges have stretched me, pushed me to grow, and most importantly, deepened my faith. Waiting on God’s timing—especially when the answer is “wait” instead of “yes” or “no”—has been a personal growth edge. Yet, the patience I’ve gained through these moments is an incredible gift. Learning to truly say, “God’s got this” and mean it has brought me a peace I couldn’t have imagined.

The Power of Connection

Through my time at Well of Mercy, I have met incredible people—guests, Board Members, staff, and the Sisters of Mercy—all of whom have left a lasting imprint on my heart. The lessons I’ve learned from them are profound:

  • Speaking in positive and affirming ways.
  • Encouraging the self-esteem of others.
  • Holding sacred space for those in need.
  • Welcoming guests with true Mercy Hospitality.
  • Allowing others to live their truth.

These lessons are not often encountered in the secular world, and they’ve changed me in ways I will carry forward. As I look to the future, I am intentionally seeking out communities and individuals who will nurture my spiritual growth, broaden my understanding, and offer new opportunities to make a difference.

Treasured Reflections

As I reflect on my time at Well, I’m struck by the sea of meaningful connections I’ve made along the way. These relationships have been a true gift—ones I will cherish for years to come.

A Blessing for the Journey Ahead

As you spend time reflecting and preparing for the new year, I pray that God’s blessings be upon you. May love take hold in your life as we step into the newness of 2025. Blessings to you in this season of reflection and renewal.
