Tune In to the Birds

With Jane Motsinger, Virginia Perry, Catherine Wandell and Kevin Campbell

May 29 - 31, 2024

The Well’s natural landscape provides the perfect habitat for a beautiful and diverse community of birds. Being aware of the rich bird life around us can enrich our experience of nature, wherever we are.

Spring is a beautiful time of the year to observe and listen to birds.  This retreat begins with an introduction to birdwatching and identifying birds by sight and sound. You will enjoy a guided walk through the grounds of Well of Mercy with all the sights and sounds of birds.

The retreat includes guided bird walks across the meadow and through the woods.  You will learn about native plants and their importance to the bird community.   Look and listen as you are guided to identify the native plants/flora.

Want to see a barred owl, a screech owl, or a red-tailed hawk up close? This retreat includes a special presentation from a bird rehabber who will bring several of her “guests” to visit. Learn more about Owl’s Roost here. This retreat is one that is sure to be a hit!

What to Bring.  Participants should bring binoculars if possible. We highly recommend installing the free Merlin Bird ID app onto your phone and downloading the Southeast Bird pack.

Retreat includes:

  • 2-nights accommodations in the guest house in a private room, private bath
  • Five nutritious, delicious, complimentary meals, snacks, tea, and coffee.
  • Private in-room coffee service, with access to a shared refrigerator.
  • You are welcome to bring supplemental  beverages or food items.
